The Office of Consumer Affairs is responsible for protecting the interests of thousands of consumers by serving as an advocate for their safety and economic well-being and by promoting legal and ethical standards of professional conduct. Consumer Affairs not only investigates consumer complaints, seeking out violations of the Consumer Fraud Act (N.J.S.A. 56:8-1 et seq.), but also educates the public on how to be a better consumers. Additionally, Consumer Affairs advises businesses how to comply with the Consumer Fraud Act in order to avoid consumer complaints and possible fines.
