Psychiatric Emergency Service System (PESS) provides the following services 24 hours/day – 7 days/week: screening assessments on-site and off-site, emergency psychiatric assessment on-site, extended evaluation/holding beds (on-site at Kimball Medical Center, patients can be held up to 24 hours for continued evaluation and stabilization). In addition to the telephone hotline service, PESS can provide support to schools in the event of a traumatic event, debriefing for emergency personnel following a traumatic event, crisis intervention and support to victims of crime or to survivors following traumatic events e.g. suicide, fatal accident, sudden death, homicide, or natural disasters. Staff provide Bereavement Counseling, run Survivors of Suicide groups and provide Education to consumers, families, agencies, schools and community groups re: mental health, crisis intervention, stress, mental health services available, and any other educational needs identified by the community which can be addressed by P.E.S.S. personnel within their area of expertise.
